IN TRAINING...

The 34th Basic Training Academy

Week 8:

The majority of the recruits took part in the Nashua Soup Kitchen and Shelter Road Race on Sunday, April 13th.  This was a 5K race that they volunteered to run for charity.  Many actually placed for their division.  Recruit David Salvucci came in first place for the Male Law Enforcement Division and Recruit Ezequiel Mercado came in second place.  For the Female Law Enforcement Division, Recruit Melissa Elie placed first, Recruit Kara Turco placed second and Shanna Cowgill placed third.

There was a change of pace in the morning physical training.  Deputy Scot Chaput stepped in for the week and gave the recruits a run for their money.

“I really enjoyed the physical training this week, especially with the nice weather!,” commented Recruit Ronald Gover.

Monday started with an introduction to direct supervision taught by Captain Gene Massa and Sergeant John Hallice.  They both covered direct and indirect supervision within the department.  Deputy Paul Meehan stopped by to talk about the employee assistance program and the services they offer.

Brian Greeley and Joe Blair taught another round of communication skills and constitutional law.  Classes on first responder were taught a couple of days by Officer Dan Crowley.  The week’s hard work was put to test on Friday, as the recruits were given exams on first responder and constitutional law.

Deputy Michael Jackson lectured and performed operation MSO vehicles.  He touched upon the use of radios and sirens, and went over the process of transportation.  The recruits got to see firsthand a MSO Dodge Charger as well as a brand new transportation van.
