WEEK 9
All squad leaders and guide on leaders were finalized in week 9. Joining their president and platoon leaders are for Alpha Squad, Recruit Daniel Tine for Squad 1, Recruit Bryan Meuse for Squad 2, and Recruit Ryan Mullen for Squad 3. Their guide on, who carries the flag, is Recruit Patrick MacDonald.
Bravo’s squad leaders are Recruit David Salvucci for Squad 1, Recruit Michael Souza for Squad 2 and Recruit Jonathan Berkeley for Squad 3. Recruit Matthew Blodgett was chosen as their guide on.
On Monday, the recruits spent the day at on the job training. This was their second time working at either the Cambridge Jail or the Billerica House of Correction.
“I worked in the central control area at the Billerica House of Correction,” says Recruit David Gladding. “This was my first time being in central control. I kept an eye on inmate movement while watching the cameras and I also got the chance to operate door security.”
Constitutional law, direct supervision and first responder were taught the majority of the week. In first responder, the recruits mainly focused on how to respond to emergency situations correctly and cautiously. Officer Daniel Crowley reviewed such topics as choking, disease control and child birth. Alpha squad put their knowledge to the test when they were quizzed on their constitutional law material. Mr. Brian Greeley also came by for some more classes on communication skills.
The recruits learned about Massachusetts highway safety for the first time. Recruit Kevin Ryan especially liked the interesting and informative video that was shown. They also were taught special management unit by Deputy Kenneth Silva. Here, they focused on the disciplinary detention unit, the segregation unit and protective custody/SMU dorm.
“In physical training with Deputy Chaput, we focused on teambuilding exercises. Both platoons came together and helped out one another,” said Recruit Joseph Corindia.
