Phase 1 of the Renovation and Modernization Program
is now complete

Thanks to the efforts of Sheriff James V. DiPaola, the Billerica House of Correction, was finally renovated and modernized to meet the demands, codes and state-of-the-art needs of corrections in the 21st Century. Built in 1929 to house 300 inmates the Billerica House of Correction was in desperate need of modernization.

"A correctional facility entails much more than the four walls that surround it," stated Sheriff DiPaola, "but when those walls and floors are falling down, it's very difficult to ensure the safety of the staff and the visiting public, much less conduct real rehabilitative programs. The renovation and modernization of the Billerica House of Correction will allow us to do both more effectively and more efficiently."
